Directions for Grandma Durfee's Baby Booties



Materials:
Size 10 crochet hoot(1.3mm)
White thread
Purple variegated thread
Purple Ribbon

Sole of bootie:
With White Thread
Row 1
Ch 23, dc in 3rd ch from hook, dc in each ch across until last ch (19 dc) 7 dc in last ch to turn corner, dc in each ch across until last ch (19 dc) 6 dc in last ch to turn corner, slst into top of ch 3
(52 dc total)
Row 2
Ch 3, dc in each st 19 across, 2 dc in each st 6 times to turn corner, dc in each st 20 across, 2 dc in each st 6 times to turn corner, slst to beginning ch 3 (64 total)
Row 3
Ch 3, dc in each st 18 across, *2dc in next st, 2 dc in next st, 1 dc in next st*. Repeat between ** 4 more times to turn corner, dc in each st 18 across, Repeat between ** 5 times to turn corner, omit last dc. Join with a slst to beginning ch 3. NOTE: The sole should lie flat. If it does not, add or subtract the 2 dc in a st until it does lie flat. (Approximately 86 total)
Row 4
Ch 3, dc in each st 19 across, * 2 dc in next st, 2 dc in next st, 1 dc in next st, 1 dc in next st*. Repeat between ** 5 more times. dc in each st 18 across, Repeat between ** 6 times. Slst to beginning ch 3. NOTE: The sole should lie flat. If it does not, add or subtract the 2 dc in a st until it does lie flat. (Approximately 108 total)
Tie off.



Side of bootie:
With White Thread
Row 1
Ch 110 (or however many dc were in row 4 of the sole). Slst to first ch. Ch 3, dc in each ch around. Slst to first ch 3. (108 total)
Row 2
Ch 1, sc in each st around, slst to first ch 1. (108 total)
Row 3
Ch 3, dc in each st around, slst to first ch 3. (108 total)
Row 4
Ch 1, sc in each st around, slst to first ch 1. (108 total)
Tie off.

Join the side and sole:
With Purple Thread
With wrong sides together, side of bootie toward you and sole away from you; sc in each st around to join, slst to first sc. (108 total)
Tie off.

Top of foot:
With Purple Thread
Find the center stitch of one end looking at the inside of the bootie and count of nine right of the middle stitch. *Sc 18 across. Slst up 2 on white side, turn.* Repeat between ** 17-19 more times. Tie off.

Around the ankle :
With White Thread
Row 1
Ch 3, dc in each st around white side and purple top of foot, slst to the ch 3.
Row 2
Ch 1 sc in each st around. Slst to first ch 1
Row 3
Ch 7, skip 2 st, tc in next st, *ch 3, skip 2 st, tc in next st. ch 3, skip 2 st, tc in next st. ch 2, skip 1 st, tc in next st.* Repeat around. Slst to the 4th ch of the ch 7.
Row 4
Slst into first ch 3 space. Ch 3, dc in same space, dc in same space. In next ch 3 space, *begin dc but do not pull through the last time (leave 2 loops on hook), begin another dc but do not pull through the last time ( 3 loops now on hook), begin another dc but do not pull through the last time ( 4 loops now on hook), yo and pull through all loops on hook* Note: From * to * is called a 3 dc Bobble. Ch 1. In next ch 3 space work 3 dc. In next ch 3 space work a 3 dc bobble. Ch1. Repeat around. Slst to first ch 3.
Row 5
Slst into middle dc. Ch 2 dc in same st. *ch 2, dc in bobble, ch 2, work a 2 dc bobble* Repeat between ** around. Slst for first bobble.
Tie off.
With Purple Thread
Row 6
Begin in a ch 2 space. 2 sc in ch 2 space *2 sc in next ch 2 space, ch 3, 2 sc in next ch 2 space * Repeat around. Slst into first sc.
Row 7
Slst across into first ch 3. *Sc in ch 3 space, ch 3, dc in next ch3 space, ch 1, dc in same ch3 space, ch 3, sc on top of last dc to form picot, ch 1, dc in same ch 3 space, ch 3* Repeat between ** around. Slst into first sc.
Tie off.
Weave purple 1/4 inch ribbon in and out of tc.
